History

Tradition and Modernity

From the machine workshop to the successful compressed air system specialist with a global presence – we are proud of our evolution, which is dotted with numerous highlights.

1919

The birth of KAESER KOMPRESSOREN

The company is founded as a machine workshop on the 27th of June 1919 in Coburg’s Hahnweg by Carl Kaeser Sr. Just a few years later, it has 150 employees.

1948

Focus on compressors as the core business

Following the division of Germany after World War II, Kaeser is cut off from large parts of its original market in the state of Thuringia. From now on focus is on new markets in southern and western Germany. It switches from reconditioning gears to producing compressed air.

1961

Relocation to Bertelsdorf

Kaeser continues its steady growth. The Hahnweg site is bursting at the seams. The ‘green meadow’ in Coburg-Bertelsdorf becomes the new head office.

1975

Sigma Profile

The development of the energy-saving rotor profile – Sigma Profile – ushers in a new era for Kaeser Kompressoren. The rotors are the heart of the compressor airend of the new rotary screw compressors. This launches the company as a leading international rotary screw compressor manufacturer.

1978

Internationalisation

The first subsidiary abroad is officially opened in Switzerland. Kaeser embarks on the expansion of its international sales and service organisation. In 2019 Kaeser is operating in more than 100 countries.

1985

The third generation steps forward

Thomas Kaeser joins the company alongside his father, actively pursuing the internationalisation of the business. He becomes managing shareholder in 2009.

1991

Acquisition of the oldest machine factory in Gera

Kaeser takes over Geraer Kompressorenwerke, the oldest German compressor manufacturer. Gera still produces blowers and refrigeration dryers today.

2002

Mobilair in Coburg

Portable compressors are coming from Coburg now. The newmanufacturing center (“MOBILAIR factory”) starts operating. The Gera plant celebrates its 125th anniversary.

2004

Everywhere in an instant

Kaeser Kompressoren inaugurates the new research and development centre. The centre enables the customer-focused, innovative products to be brought to market more quickly than ever before. The company revolutionises the logistic processes at every site. Core elements of the innovative system are a new, fully automated high rack warehouse and a new distribution centre.

2012

Excellence!

Thomas Kaeser is awarded the State Medal for outstanding contributions to the Bavarian economy.

2017

Kaeser: the innovation powerhouse

The new research and innovation center opens its doors and provides even more creativity. The building offers short lines of communication and plenty of space for innovative ideas.

2018

Smart Factory coming

Halls 10 and 11 are added as the newest production areas. The state-of-the-art production plants manufacture rotary screw compressors and special machinery.

2019

Gera is growing too

The production of the innovative refrigeration dryers needs more space. Topping-out ceremony for a new production hall in Gera.
